Prof. M. (Marcello) Seri

Marcello Seri is an associate professor of differential geometry at the Bernoulli Institute of Mathematics, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. The mathematics that he is interested in sits at the crossroads of dynamical systems, analysis and geometry. This gives him the opportunity to explore both abstract mathematics and potential applications: he enjoys looking outside his own expertise and engaging with colleagues from other fields, mathematical or otherwise.

Marcello joined YAG wanting to contribute to a positive change in academia and to defend the value of research as a whole, be it pure, applied or interdisciplinary. For the first half of his time as a YAG member, he joined the Diversity & Inclusion group: having lived in four countries with his family and having worked in both academia and industry, he wanted to share his experience to help make the University more inclusive and multicultural. Change comes from multiple sides and he thinks that we need to make a stronger effort to burst our bubble and interact with people outside academia, especially from the less applied sciences. To help in this direction, he moved to the Public Engagement group, where he is learning how to engage with the general public and working on activities to foster curiosity in research.
