At the UVC, we offer a premium translation service to clients both within and outside the University of Groningen. We translate different text types from and into a range of modern foreign languages.

Working languages
  • Dutch
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish
Text types

We translate a range of texts, including:

  • press releases, questionnaires, exam texts, academic articles, thesis summaries, policy documents, and minutes
  • medical, scientific, legal, financial, and journalistic texts
  • forward-backward translations
  • sworn translation

How we work

We guarantee high quality through:

  • Two translation rounds: when the translation is complete, it is reviewed by a second linguist for quality assurance purposes.
  • The native speaker principle: to ensure a natural flow and tone, we assign at least one native speaker to each translation job.
  • Competitive deadlines: deadlines will always be established together with you to best suit your schedule.
  • Consistency: you will receive translations that are consistent with UG-wide terminology.

Machine translation post-editing (MTPE)

By default, our translation projects are carried out by human translators. This ensures the highest possible quality and publication-ready output. Upon request, we can also carry out machine translation post-editing, which means that we run the document to be translated through a machine translation engine, after which the translation is reviewed by two members of our team.

Generally speaking, we strongly recommend human translation, particularly in situations where the highest quality is required, i.e. content that is intended for external use or publication, for highly complex documents, legal documents, website texts, press releases, and communications.

If you are faced with time constraints and would like to translate low-visibility content that is not highly creative or idiomatic, we can offer machine translation post-editing. As part of the MTPE process, our linguists correct any objective errors. This type of workflow can be suitable for the translation of technical documents, knowledge banks, and other straightforward and non-creative texts. Our machine translation engine of choice is DeepL Pro, which provides a secure translation environment and deletes content from its servers as soon as the translation has been completed. Naturally, human translation offers the highest degree of privacy and security, which is the option we would recommend for any confidential documents.

If in doubt about the suitable workflow or if you have any questions, please get in touch with us, and we will be able to advise you on the most suitable translation process.
