Prof. L. (Lorenzo) Squintani

Prof. Dr. Lorenzo Squintani is professor of energy law at the University of Groningen and scientific director of the Wubbo Ockels School for Energy and Climate. He is co-director of the Like!Me Living Lab, in which he works together with government and market players to improve participatory processes in the energy transition.

Public participation in decision-making is often seen as a way to increase public support for policy. But when does public participation lead to more support? The Like!Me Living Lab assumes that two factors are important for effective public participation, namely involving different groups in society and representing different values. It is being investigated how different groups and values can be better involved in decision-making.

Squintani is founder and member of the board of directors of the U4 Network Environmental Law. He is also a member of the board of directors of the European Environmental Law Forum (EELF.info) and of the Journal for European Environmental and Planning Law (JEEPL). He is Series Editor of the EELF Book Series. His research and teaching interests include procedural and substantive environmental, energy and climate law in the Netherlands and at EU level. Prof. dr. Squintani is the author of several publications in the field of European environmental, energy and climate legislation. Prof. dr. Squintani regularly advises Dutch, EU and/or international institutions on (EU) environmental and energy law issues.
