Second edition of the Summer School Energy Challenges, was again a success

Summerschool Energy Challenges 2024

19 students, master students, PhD’s and professionals with different backgrounds, who wanted to delve into the world of hydrogen economics and the social-technical challenges, joined the WOS summer school Energy Challenges - an interdisciplinary approach from 26-30 august 2024.

Participants worked in interdisciplinary groups on a real-life challenge introduced by Beau Broen Project Manager Hydrogen of New Energy Coalition. During the week, theory and practice alternated. Experts introduced the topic of energy transition, by lecturers from the different disciplines of the University of Groningen. In addition, participants were shown around at the RWE plant at Eemshaven so they can see for themselves how energy is produced. And they played the We-Energy Game so that they become aware of the task that the energy transition (may) entail.

This was the second edition of this WOS summer school, and again it was a great success. Quotes of the participants:

‘The interdisciplinarity of this summer school gave me more instruments and capabilities to work in a team composed of different backgrounds, tackling a complex problem. I hope to have the opportunity to apply economics and law insights in future works and discussions.’

’During the summer school, I learned about renewable energy systems and hydrogen technologies, which I can now apply to green hydrogen projects. For example, I can conduct feasibility studies that integrate wind or solar power with electrolysis for green hydrogen production. Additionally, I can advocate for policies that support green hydrogen adoption and collaborate with stakeholders to develop large-scale hydrogen infrastructure, driving the transition to a sustainable energy future.’

If you would also like to join this interesting interdisciplinary summer school on hydrogen economics and the social-technical challenges next year, keep an eye on the calendar on our website.
