Successful WOS-event 'Wubbo's Legacy'
On 3 April, the successful Wubbo Ockels School for Energy and Climate (WOS) event 'Wubbo's Legacy' took place at the House of Connections. An afternoon full of inspiration and memories of an astronaut, researcher and world improver.
Some 60 attendees listened to stories by Ton Schoot Uiterkamp, former colleague and close friend of Wubbo, and Wubbo's wife Joos Ockels, who was presented with the first copy of Ton's essay 'Wubbo Ockels, a multitalented man'. Joos explained Wubbo's three main principles: we are all astronauts on spaceship Earth, optimism about sustainability is a responsibility, and sustainability is not less, but different and much more fun.
Wubbo's former student Pieter Hofstede, former internship supervisor Ramon Alberts and co-founder of 'De Groene Grachten' Suze Gehem told how his passion for a sustainable planet continues to inspire their work today. Rector Magnificus Cisca Wijmenga also addressed the audience.
For everyone there was a copy of the booklet 'Wubbo Ockels, a multitalent'. There was also an interactive programme where challenges were raised and a toast was given by Prof Lorenzo Squintani, director of the WOS.
