Prof. Dr. Marcel Broersma (theme leader)
Marcel Broersma is a Full Professor and Director of the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen, and directs its Digital Inclusion Lab. He is also the director of the Dutch Research School for Media Studies (RMeS), chairs the Digital Literacy Coalition, and coordinates the national Digital Society research program in which all Dutch universities participate. His research focuses on the interface between the digital transformation of journalism, social media, changing media use, and digital literacy and inclusion.
Dr. Annamária Neag (theme coordinator)
Annamária Neag is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, The University of Groningen. Her research lies at the intersection of media literacy, digital activism and migration. Annamária has published extensively on these topics and is currently writing a book on inclusive media literacy education.
Dr. Claudia Minchilli
Claudia Minchilli is an Assistant Professor at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen. Her expertise lies at the intersection of digital media, gender, and migration studies, which she approaches through a postcolonial feminist lens. Previously, she was as a doctoral candidate for the ERC Consolidator project ConnectingEurope at Utrecht University.
Her thesis, titled ‘Localizing Digital Diaspora: Diasporic Digital Networking among Somali, Romanian, and Turkish Women in Rome through the Lens of Social Class’ investigates the digital practices of Somali, Romanian and Turkish women living in Rome and the impact that these practices have on social class dynamics and experiences of social class mobility.
Dr. Olga Pasitselska
Olga Pasitselska is Assistant Professor for Social media and Politics at the Centre for Media and Journalism Studies, The University of Groningen. Her research focuses on the potential and limitations of digital technologies for civic engagement and political participation. She is particularly interested in semi-private spaces for political discussion, civic self-organization, and norm negotiation on social media and messaging apps. Her research was published in Political Communication, Human Communication Research, Digital Journalism, and other venues.
