Step 3: Preparation
Make sure you start preparing well in time before the start of your Master's degree programme. Think, for example, of the following:
-
Please check the relevant information package before the start of your Master’s degree programme or Pre-master’s programme. These information packages are always published in the summer vacation for the new cohort of students that starts the Master’s degree programme on 1 September, but they are also relevant if you start later in the year.
-
If you are starting your Master’s degree programme or Pre-master’s programme on 1 September, please join the FSE Faculty Introduction Day on the Friday before the start of the academic year. You will receive an invitation via email during the summer vacation. After the joint (Faculty) part of the meeting, many degree programmes organize their own introduction meetings, attendance at which is compulsory.
-
Some degree programmes organize information sessions for Bachelor’s students about the practical aspects that should be dealt with before the start of the Master’s degree programme. These information sessions will be announced via the Need-2-Know section of the internal Student Portal. Make sure you attend these meetings. If you do not have an active UG account, please contact the academic advisor of the Master’s degree programme to check whether there are any relevant information events coming up.
Accommodation
In Groningen, students live in student housing or private accommodation. As it is often very difficult to find accommodation in Dutch cities, we advise you to start searching for housing as earliest as possible. Keep in mind that over 20,000 students will be searching for a accommodation at the same time as you.
Watch the video below and listen to the students' experiences on finding a room.
What are your options?
- SSH Student Housing - you can rent one of the rooms the University of Groningen has reserved for international students.
- Private accommodation - you can search and rent a room from private landloards on At Home In Groningen.
- Long-stay hotel - The Student Hotel
