dr. S.W.M. (Sophia) Bruggeman

Sophia Bruggeman (Rhenen, The Netherlands 1979) studied Biology at the University of Nijmegen. As a PhD student, she worked in the lab of Prof. dr. Maarten van Lohuizen, Netherlands Cancer Institute, on the role of Polycomb group genes in brain development and cancer (2008, cum laude). She next moved to the lab of Prof. dr. Andrew Lumsden, King's College London, to work on the development of the chick and zebrafish forebrain on a KWF postdoctoral fellowship. This fellowship was completed in the lab of Prof. dr. Gerald de Haan, European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing (ERIBA/UMCG). In 2013, Sophia was awarded a Rosalind Franklin fellowship (tenure track) and has recently set up her own lab in the group of Prof. dr. Eveline de Bont, Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, UMCG, where she studies the role of epigenetics in pediatric brain cancer.
