S. (Sebastian) Firk, Dr
Sebastian Firk is an Associate Professor at the Department of Accounting and Auditing. Before joining the University of Groningen, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Goettingen from 2017 till 2019 and a visiting researcher at the Accounting Department of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2017. Between 2013 and 2016, Sebastian was a doctoral student at the University of Goettingen and received a doctoral degree in Management Accounting (Dr.rer.pol.) in 2016. Before, he obtained a master degree in management from the University of Goettingen and a bachelor degree in business administration from the RWTH Aachen University.
Sebastian's research combines insights from management accounting, corporate governance, and strategy. Currently, Sebastian focuses on the implications of the digitalization on firms, managers and, particularly, the finance function. In his research, Sebastian explores large archival datasets that benefit from innovative data collection, for example, by means of textual analysis.
Sebastian's research has been published in leading academic accounting, information systems and management journals such as Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, European Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Strategic Information Systems, Long Range Planning, Management Accounting Research, and Strategic Management Journal.
Sebastian also regularly reviews for leading accounting, information systems, and management journals and is an Editorial Board Member of the European Accounting Review and Management Review Quarterly.
