R. (Ratna) Juwita
Ratna Juwita graduated from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta (Sarjana Hukum/LL.B, 2012, specialization in international law) cum laude, University of Groningen (LL. M in international law and the law of international organizations, specialization human rights, 2014), and Universitas Gadjah Mada (Magister Ilmu Hukum/LL.M, specialization in international law, 2015) cum laude. During her master's studies at the University of Groningen, Ratna worked under the supervision of Professor Brigit Toebes in the Essential Legislation for Medicine Access (ELMA) project in 2013-2014. Ratna received her scholarship from the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education for her LL.M studies at the University of Groningen. Ratna has been working as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Law, Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta since 2015. Ratna received her scholarship from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education/Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) for her doctoral studies in 2019. Ratna successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitled 'Conceptualising Corruption as a Violation of Human Rights in Indonesia' on the 12th of July 2023. She is a Visiting Fellow in the Transboundary Legal Studies Department, University of Groningen.
Ratna’s research interests are international law, anti-corruption, and human rights. Ratna is an active member of several research groups. Ratna joined the Development of International Law in Asia (DILA) in 2018. In 2020, she joined the International Law Association (ILA) Study Group (ILA) of the Asian State Practice of Domestic Implementation of International Law. In this study group, Ratna covered the study on economic, social, and cultural rights. Ratna is a member of the Groningen Centre for Health Law (GCHL) and Aletta Jacobs Junior Research Network for her research on health sector corruption. To accommodate her research interest in anti-corruption, she is part of the Development, Security, and Justice research group under the Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development. Ratna presented her research with the Interdisciplinary Corruption Research Network (ICRN) and established her network with the ICRN in 2021. Ratna is also a member of the Netherlands Network of Human Rights Research (NNHRR) and the Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Internationaal Recht (Royal Netherlands Society of International Law).
She is a copy editor for Groningen Journal of International Law from 2013-2017 and an associate editor for Justitia et Pax, the law journal from Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta. She has several peer review experiences for, inter alia, Organization Studies and the Journal of Human Rights Practice. In Indonesia, Ratna held the position of the Chair of the Law and Society department in 2018-2019. She teaches international law and human rights law at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta.
