prof. dr. P. (Peter) Heeringa

Peter Heeringa (1968) studied Medical Biology at the University of Groningen, where he specialized in immunology for his Master Degree. At the same university he obtained a PhD degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences in 1997 on the subject of animal models of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic autoantibody associated vasculitis.

From 1998 to 2000 Peter Heeringa was a postdoctoral fellow in the department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Laboratory of Nephropathology (Prof. J.C. Jennette) University of Norh Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA where he was involved in the development of a mouse model for anti-myeloperoxidase mediated small vessel vasculitis. Upon returning to the Netherlands, he became an assistant professor at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht, University of Maastricht. In 2005, he was awarded a VIDI grant from the Dutch Organization for Scientific Research (NWO). In 2006, he was appointed associate professor at the department of Pathology and Medical Biology, University of Groningen/UMCG where he became full professor in 2015.

Dr. Heeringa is a reviewer for national and international funding agencies and various scientific journals, and an active member of  the Dutch Society of Immunology.
