Post-doc onderzoeker in het project Exact Chronology of Early Societies (ECHOES).

Two upsurges, or ‘spikes’, in the atmospheric concentration of radiocarbon have recently been discovered. The spikes were identified in tree-rings laid down in the years 775 and 994 CE. 

For me as an archaeologist, these spikes are of great interest since they allow to anchor floating chronologies, such as the Mesoamerican Long Count, into our own Gregorian calendar. In order to achieve this, I will try to isolate- and radiocarbon date- annual tree-rings from relevant archaeological samples.
