Exploring Hunter-Gatherer Cultural Diversity in Northeast Asia
The aim of the project is to investigate hunter-gatherer regional diveristy and social change in Northeast Asia. The project is part funded by the Baikal-Hokkaido Archaeology Project (BHAP) and will take advantage of the extensive data available for past hunter-gatherer lifeways in the Baikal region, Siberia and more specifically on the island of Hokkaido, Northern Japan. The project will focus particularly on change in burial practices, cultural diversity and exchange networks during the transition to agriculture in Japan.
