A.C. (Anna) Moles, PhD
During my MA in Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of St Andrews (2007-2011) I developed an interest in mortuary archaeology that led me to pursue an MSc in Human Osteoarchaeology at the University of Edinburgh (2011-2012). I then went on to work for the British School at Athens for two years before deciding to take on a PhD in Archaeology at University College London. I completed this project, entitled Urbanism and its impact on human health: a long-term study at Knossos, Crete, in 2019. Between 2019-2021, I was the Assistant Director of the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens, before taking up the position of Assistant Professor of Mediterranean Archaeology and Human Osteoarchaeology at the University of Groningen.
Since arriving at the University of Groningen, I have established the Human Osteoarchaeology Laboratory, with archaeological skeletal collections, casts, equipment and a reference library for teaching and research. I have also set up new bioarchaeological courses, tutorials and internships for the teaching of human osteoarchaeology within the Archaeology programmes. I am currently working on projects in Greece, the Netherlands and Belize.
