Program and Planning
The international workshop ‘Resilience: Just do it?!’ provides space for both, making a start with ‘doing’ resilience as well as critically discussing it and is therefore divided into two interconnected parts: 1) a more practice-oriented field trip and interactive working sessions part and 2) a theory-oriented presentation and discussion part.
The field trip includes a visit to a vulnerable coastal region in the north of the Netherlands as well as a neighborhood with an innovative approach towards living with water in the city of Groningen. The knowledge and experiences gathered during the field drip will form an input for the interactive working sessions during which participants are asked to collaborate on creating resilience strategies for the areas visited.
In order to learn about ‘doing’ resilience, several international experts are invited to share their experiences ‘from the field’, either in the form of a keynote speech or providing instructions for one of the workshops.
Each of the keynote speeches is connected to a specific presentation session in which the participants get the opportunity to present and discuss their work. Presentations are divided into four tracks: Track 1. How to govern for resilience?, Track 2: The social side of resilience, Track 3: Disaster management and disaster recovery and Track 4: Risk communication and capacity building. Potential participants are invited to submit an abstract to their chosen session and after being selected to submit a full conference paper one month before the conference.
The output of the international workshop will be an edited book with selected articles from the workshop, a networking document and an event webpage. A workshop report will be submitted to an academic journal by the organizing committee. Furthermore, the workshop and the contacts acquired during the workshop will form a basis for submitting joint project proposals in the future.
Potential participants
The number of participants is limited to a maximum of 40. PhD candidates, early career researchers as well as senior researchers and practitioners are welcome to participate.
Costs: There will be no charge for participation at the workshop and lunch will be provided. Participants are expected to arrange their own travel and accommodation (information and special offers will be provided on this web-page after the selection process is completed). A workshop scholarship is available for a limited number of participants.
