Prof. Patrizio Raffa received his MSc degree in Chemistry with honors from the University of Pisa and from Scuola Normale Superiore in 2004, where he also completed his PhD in Chemistry, also with honors, in 2009. He did post-doctoral research at Ircelyon (CNRS), CNR-INFM Polylab (Pisa), then back at the University of Pisa, and finally at the University of Groningen, specializing in polymer chemistry. In 2017 he got a position as Assistant Professor in the same University, and as of 2022 he is Associate Professor in Smart and Sustainable Polymeric Products. His current research aims at developing new multifunctional polymeric materials relevant for industrial applications. In particular, he is interested in amphiphilic and stimuli-responsive polymers obtained via controlled polymerization methods, and in the use of bio-derived building blocks for the synthesis of sustainable polymeric products. These can be used in various applications as rheology modifiers, emulsifiers, binders, controlled release systems, and smart/multifunctional materials, to name a few.
He published more than 50 papers in ISI journals (1500+ citations, H-index 16), and one invited book in chemical enhanced oil recovery. He is coordinator and lecturer for courses in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry education. He also plays guitar, enjoys hiking and social drinking, and likes to move pieces randomly over a chess board.
