It is possible to accomplish a PhD project in the field of landscape, cultural history, cultural and green heritage, country houses and landed estates. The Centre of Landscape Studies offers the opportunity to benefit from its expertise and a large network within and outside the Netherlands.

Completed PhD-projects:

Dr. Martin van den Broeke - Het pryeel van Zeeland. Buitenplaatsen op Walcheren 1600-1820. Promotie op 20 juni 2016.
Dr. Jeroen Zomer - Middeleeuwse veenontginningen in het getijdebekken van de Hunze. Een interdisciplinair landschapshistorisch onderzoek naar de paleogeografie, ontginning en waterhuishouding (ca 800 - ca 1500). Promotie op 15 september 2016.
Dr. Lenneke Berkhout - Hoveniers van Oranje. Functie, werk en positie 1621-1732. Promotie op 27 augustus 2020.
Dr. Diana Spiekhout - Het middeleeuwse kastelenlandschap van het Oversticht. De ontwikkeling van bisschoppelijke burchten, adellijke huizen en versterkingen in relatie tot het landschap en de samenleving in Noordoost-Nederland tussen 1050 en 1450. Promotie op 12 oktober 2020.
Dr. Harm Smeenge - Historische landschapsecologie van Noordoost-Twente. Acht interdisciplinaire studies op het snijvlak van aardkunde, ecologie en cultuurhistorie (ca 13.000 BP – heden). Promotie op 15 oktober 2020.
Dr. Rita L. Radetzky - Tuinarchitect Lucas Pieters Roodbaard (1782-1851) en de landschapsstijl. Promotie op 4 maart 2021.
Dr. Henk van Blerck - Landschapsplan Nederland. Hermeneutische interpretatie van de Staatsbosbeheer-collectie omvattende de landschapsplannen die zijn ontworpen in het kader van ruilverkavelingen in Nederland in de periode van 1946 tot 1976 als deel van de biografie van het Nederlandse landschap. Promotie op 19 mei 2022.
Dr. Gerrit van Oosterom - Boeren op de buitenplaats. De relatie tussen landbouw en buitenleven in het Amstellands Arcadië (1640-1840). Promotie op 9 juni 2022.

Willem Vletter - Reconstruction of prehistoric and historic road and path networks in vegetated areas through the application of Airborne Laser Scanning.
Annemarie Zijlstra - Het landschap van de Friese buitenplaatsen (1600-1800). Economie, samenleving en cultuur.
Evelyn Ligtenberg - Adellijk beheer van havezates in Overijssel (1650-1850). Een vergelijkend landschapshistorisch, economisch en sociaal-cultureel onderzoek naar drie havezates in Salland en Twente.
Loes Scholtens - Historische ontwikkeling en ruimtelijke variatie van de veenkoloniën in het Bourtangerveen (1598 – 1983). Een interdisciplinair landschapshistorisch onderzoek naar de sturende invloed van externe factoren, natuurlijke hulpbronnen, actoren en hun instituties op de ruimtelijke plannen en gerealiseerde landschappelijke inrichting van veenkoloniën.
Jens Enemark - The Battle of the Wadden Sea. A historical political analysis of the protection of the Dutch Wadden Sea in the context of political modernization 1945-2000.
Marcel Rompelman - Paleohydrologie en landschapsontwikkeling van het Berkeldal vanaf het Laat-Glaciaal: historische referenties, actuele problematiek en toekomstige oplossingsrichtingen.
Berco Hoegen - Historische landschapsecologie van grienden in de Biesbosch, het Gelders rivierengebied en Limburg (1750-1950).
