ERC Consolidator Award for Jingyuan Fu
Dr Jingyuan Fu has been awarded a prestigious European Research Council Consolidator grant. Jing’s project - BugDrug: Enhancing efficacy of commonly used drugs by manipulating gut microbiome - will examine whether it is possible to make medications more effective by altering an individual’s gut microbiome. The €2 million award funds a five-year project that focusses specifically on 23 medications commonly used to treat cardiovascular disease and psychiatric disorders. The work will examine the response of gut bacteria to these medications using data and biobank material from the Lifelines cohort, organ-on-a-chip technology and clinical interventions.
