Cum laude thesis for Lianmin Chen, HNI Fellowship for Irene van Blockland and a GUF 100 prize for Trishla Sinha

June-July was a prize-winning period for young researchers in the Department, with three PhD students honored.
• Lianmin Chen received cum laude honors for his doctoral thesis “Environment-host-microbe interactions shape human metabolism”. Dr. Chen is now busy setting up his own research line at Nanjing Medical University.
• MD/Phd candidate Irene van Blockland was awarded a 2021 Netherlands Heart Institute Fellowship to pursue her work bridging cardiology and genetics in building a “human atlas of epicardial fat gene expression in cardiovascular disease”. • MD/Phd candidate Trishla Sinha was awarded the Groningen University Fund (GUF) 100 prize for the Faculty of Medical Science, which was presented by the Rector Magnificus on 1 July 2021 during the UG’s summer ceremony.
