Doctoral Programme
The holders of a PhD degree in Data Science and Systems Complexity from the University of Groningen are well-equipped with fundamental scientific knowledge, well-versed in applying computation, modelling and analysis to solve a wide breadth of social problems (health, to smart industry or energy), and experienced in working with industrial partners. They become therefore independent researchers ready to start a successful career in academia or in industry in the Netherlands or abroad.
PhD candidates in Data Science and Systems Complexity at the RUG participate in interdisciplinary projects that combine disciplines which gather huge amounts of data (bioinformatics, astronomy, physics) and disciplines that develop methodologies for the analysis and processing of big data or modelling of complex systems (mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering).
Our PhD students are currently involved in projects about: the connectivity structure of complex dynamical networks; fast processing of very large data; analysis of large clinical data; the information processing that underlies the interactions between brain areas.
