Programme embedding in H2020
The DSSC Research and Training Program is co-funded by the Marie Sklodowska Curie COFUND, a highly prestigious action developed by the European Commission. Its prerequisites are excellent training, mobility and personal development of the fellows recruited within the COFUND action.
As this program is being sponsored partly by the European Commission, the recruited fellows benefit from the prestige associated with the COFUND action. According to a European Commission study Marie Curie fellows:

Are more successful in applying for European Research Council (ERC)’s competitive grants for high quality research.

Develop extensive international mobility experience, interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary and complementary skills.

Build a strong and widespread research network.
- Achieve high research output (publications, patents, keynote papers).
The program is also partly sponsored by the DSSC Centre, which is hosted at the University of Groningen, one of the oldest Universities in the Netherlands placed in the top 100 Universities worldwide. The Centre provides excellent training, designed and monitored by leading researchers, and has arrangements for secondments with innovative academic and industrial partners in the Netherlands and abroad.
Embedding in the Netherlands and international connections
The DSSC Centre, which provides and monitors the training of the fellows recruited within the DSSC COFUND action, is hosted at the University of Groningen, one of the oldest and leading Universities in the Netherlands. Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen is ranked in in the top 100 of the Shanghai ARWU, the QS World University Rankings, and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Training in the DSSC PhD Program is coordinated by the Graduate School of Science and Engineering where more than 50% of its 800+ PhD students come from outside the Netherlands.

The Netherlands is the world’s sixth most advanced ICT economy and the DSSC participates in numerous consortia that uphold this leading position: the Big Data Alliance, Data Science Platform Netherlands (DSPN), ePLAN, the Netherlands Platform Complex Systems, TARGET (one of the largest ongoing public-private projects in the Netherlands in the area of Big Data), ERCET the European Research Centre for Exascale Technology, the Region of Smart Factories in which 40 partners from North Netherlands develop the Factory of the Future. At international level, the DSSC has established contacts with highly innovative academic and industrial partners in France, Germany and the United Kingdom. The Centre’s network of Dutch and international partners offer exciting secondment opportunities. The DSSC fellows will select, together with their supervisors, the secondments that will be most suitable to the fellow’s project. For the duration of the secondment the fellow will also benefit from the supervision of an advisor at the hosting partner.
