Announcing the “Exploring Worldviews” Interdisciplinary Seminar Series

The “Exploring Worldviews” Interdisciplinary Seminar Series will be launched on September 26, 2024 with a hybrid event at the Faculty of Religion Culture and Society, University of Groningen. The aim of this monthly seminar is to create a forum dedicated to unraveling the development and influence of the concept of "worldview" in contemporary thought and society. This series brings together leading scholars to discuss how worldviews shape academic discourse, inform public policy, and influence societal debates. Through interdisciplinary dialogue, we will explore the historical roots of the concept and its impact across the globe.

The seminar series is closely tied to the collaborative research project "Modern Worldviews and Culture Wars: A Transnational Conceptual History" funded by the Dutch Science Foundation NWO. At the opening event, team members, historian Todd Weir, philosopher Hugo Hogenbirk, and anthropologist Victor Cova will give an overview of the project and report on their initial findings. Their short presentations outline the journey of worldview From the Descent of Weltanschauung to the Ascent of Cosmovision” .
