Brain and Cognition/GSMS PhD positions 2023
In 2023, the UMCG Research Institute Brain and Cognition/Graduate School of Medical Sciences (GSMS) offers a maximum of two PhD positions, one 3-year position and one 4-year position, to recent graduates who hold a master degree from the BCN Research Master Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences. PhD students will be employed by the UMCG and will have a regular 3- or 4-year PhD employee contract.
Who can apply?
Application is open to prospective PhD candidates who have successfully completed, or are about to complete, their degree from the BCN Research Master Behavioural and Cognitive Neurosciences and who did part of their research at the UMCG.
Submission of the PhD proposal
Eligible students are invited to write and submit an original PhD research proposal under the supervision of a Brain and Cognition researcher. The topic of the PhD proposal should match with the objectives of one of the research programs of the Research Institute Brain and Cognition, UMCG. The supervising researcher should be a full member of one of the Brain and Cognition research programs.
A full PhD proposal should be submitted the following format, 'Instructions for application BCN Research Master (N-track) PhD Research Proposal 2023', and submitted, via email (e.t.kuiper-drenth umcg.nl with a cc. to bcn umcg.nl), latest July 3rd, 2023.
Evaluation of PhD proposals
The research proposal and the presentation will be evaluated by a committee composed by the director of Brain and Cognition, the coordinator of the N-track program, and two independent reviewers. The evaluation committee will rate all eligible proposals and will award maximum two PhD positions based on [1] the quality of the candidates (45%), [2] the quality of the research proposed (45%), and [3] its cultural, societal, technological or economic impact (10%).
