More than one track within Dutch law

Which courses to follow

The Faculty offers two English-taught master programmes that offer more than one track:

European Law in a Global Context:
- European Law in a Global Context, and
- Technology Law and Innovation.

Public International Law:
- Health and Technology Law,
- International Human Rights Law, and
- Public International Law.

If you wish to graduate in more than one track within one of these programmes, you will have to participate in all compulsory courses of those tracks, as mentioned in the LLM Teaching and Examination Regulations (TER). You only write one Master’s thesis, which has to deal with a topic linked to the programme. You will also only have to participate in one Law in Practice module. The master’s programme, with the exception of the Research Master, has to consist of at least 60 ECTS.

Diploma/degree certificate

If you choose to take more than one track within one of the programmes mentioned above, you will receive one degree certificate for that diploma. Your diploma supplement will reflect all tracks you have participated in. You will fill in one list of courses which includes all courses from all tracks you are participating in. The diploma production process can only start after all components of both tracks have been completed.

The choice you make in Studielink will decide what your degree certificate will look like. If you are registered in Studielink in the International Human Rights Law track, your degree certificate will say: ‘Public International Law – International Human Rights Law’. If you have chosen to register in Studielink in the Public International Law programme, the degree certificate will say ‘Public International Law’.

Again: the diploma supplement will reflect all tracks you have completed.

Advice

When you decide to participate in more than one track, we advise you to choose one track as the main track. In your planning you will then give priority to the courses of that main track. Please feel free to check in with a study adviser if you wish to discuss your planning.
