Mentor and (Study) Support
Mentor system
The university-wide association ESN Groningen has set up a student mentor system for the integration of exchange students both at university and at Faculty level. Dutch student mentors play a particularly important role in the first weeks of the foreign students’ stay in Groningen, but in many cases also after that.
ESN Groningen organizes activities especially for international students and their Dutch student mentors, often in co-operation with Faculty-based associations.
Exchange students will receive an e-mail with information how they can register for a mentor.
Student faculty organisations
Students can join the Law Faculty’s LLB student association NEXUS (established by international students), or the Law Faculty’s student association JFV (Juridische Faculteits Vereniging). These associations organise activities, guest lectures and excursions especially meant for law students, e.g. excursions to the Groningen court, a prison, a law firm and the Dutch Parliament in The Hague.
Study support
Studying in Groningen and living abroad is a special and useful experience, but it can be hard for students to find their way into the habits of Dutch society and the educational system.
The Student Service Centre (SSC) is the University’s centre for study support. The student counsellors, psychologists and trainers work together to provide an integrated package of student support with the aim of helping students with their studies. They can prevent or remove possible impediments to study progress so that students can develop fully during their time at university.
The SSC has a wide range of support facilities, information and advice, individual discussions, short-term therapy and a wide variety of workshops and training courses.
Of course students are always welcome to contact the International Office, if they have problems (of any kind)!
