LLM Student - Ksenija Korolova
My name is Ksenija Korlova, I come from Latvia. Right now i am doing LLM Global and European perspective at the Chatholic University of Lisbon.
What programme/track did you take in our Faculty? Why did you choose this programme/track?
I did an LL.B. International and European law, because I have always wanted to understand why we live in the world as it is, in societal and legal points of view. I decided to study international law in English, and Groningen University was the best choice.
What have you done next to your programme? Which extracurricular activities did you participate in?
During my years at the University of Groningen I was an active participant in student associations – Nexus and ELSA (this one I co-founded with my amazing team). Moreover, I went on Erasmus to Vienna, took part in Honours Programme (including the mandatory summer school) and in Exploring Entrepreneurship summer school in Moscow also co-organized by the University of Groningen, and of course in ELSA summer school on banking and finance. I also went with ELSA delegations to various conferences, such as UNCITRAL working groups in Vienna. Last but not least, I took a beginners' course in Chinese language.
What does your current job entail? Which competences are most important to this job?
Right now I am doing LLM Global and European perspective at the Catholic University of Lisbon.
Ksenija Korolova is now working as a Corporate and legal affairs specialist at the Gazprombank Switzerland.
How did you end up in this job? What is/was your career path?
Right after graduation I went to Frankfurt am Main to work as a research associate at an international law firm, in financial services. On a side I was also working for a fintech startup, but felt that I want to make a change in my career. That brought me to Brussels, where I had a Blue Book traineeship at the European Commission. After all the work, I decided that I need to get an LLM as soon as possible.
Do you have any career tips for our students?
Dream and Plan! Impossible is nothing, especially if you have plan A, B, C, D and preferably E. It is never too late for a change if you really want it.
