Mentor for a Day
The Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society recently revised its alumni policy, to strengthen and maintain contacts between the Faculty and its alumni. One of the cornerstones in the new alumni policy is a focus on the relationship between alumni and students. As you probably know from experience, it can be difficult to draw a clear picture of the career opportunities for graduates in our field of study. This is why we want to help our students by bringing them into contact with our Faculty’s alumni.
About the project
The aim of the Mentor for a Day project is to bring together alumni and students, for their mutual benefit. This involves students spending half a day or a day shadowing a graduate of their choice at their workplace. This first-hand experience of a specific job or workplace will help students make better and more informed choices in future. For alumni, this is an ideal opportunity to meet future religious studies professionals and strengthen their relationship with the Faculty of Religion, Culture and Society.
How does it work?
You can register as a graduate mentor via the registration form. Based on your details, such as your job description, location and organization, a profile will be created on a secure web page accessible only to students and alumni in possession of the password. Students can browse through the profiles at their leisure and select a workplace or graduate to shadow for half a day or a day. Students are responsible for contacting alumni to agree on a suitable date for job shadowing.
Conditions
The job-shadowing day is subject to a number of conditions. The student must be given the opportunity to attend one or more activities that are characteristic of your job or workplace. The student must also be able to shadow you for at least half a day (morning or afternoon), not only to gain theoretical knowledge but also to experience the practical aspects of your work. Finally, your participation in Mentor for a Day is entirely voluntary. For students, this activity counts as an employability-related activity: students are required to take part in at least two such activities a year.
If you have any questions about the project or the conditions, do not hesitate to contact the project leader at alumni.rcs rug.nl
