Arthur ten Cate appointed Professor by special appointment of Military History

On 1 September 2019, Arthur ten Cate will be appointed Professor by special appointment of “Military History, in particular of the period after the fall of the Berlin Wall” at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen. The Chair is a collaboration between our Faculty, the Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging Ons Leger (Royal Dutch Association ‘Our Army’) and the Netherlands Institute for Military History (NIMH).

Dr Arthur ten Cate is specialized in contemporary military history. His main topic of research is international interventions and operations. He is the (co-)author of various publications on these topics, e.g. A gentle occupation. Dutch military operations in Iraq, 2003-2005. In 2007, he received his doctorate for the dissertation ‘Dying for Bosnia? A historical analysis of the intervention debate in the Netherlands, 1992-1995’ (translated title). As the current programme manager of NIMH, Ten Cate is responsible for various research projects regarding modern military operations and international interventions, such as the four-part academic series about the Afghanistan war.
