Launch of the GGDC/UNU-WIDER Economic Transformation Database
Date: | 17 February 2021 |
Today, the Economic Transformation Database has been released. This database has been developed by the Groningen Growth and Development Centre, supported by UNU-WIDER. The database provides information on output and employment for 12 sectors of the economy for 51 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America and covers the period from 1990 to 2018. Using these new data, Gaaitzen de Vries, Emmanuel Mensah, Hagen Kruse and UNU-WIDER's Kunal Sen have shown that African countries have been re-industrialising in the most recent decade after the premature deindustrialization found by Dani Rodrik. For a discussion of these new results and their implications, also see this article.
