Course 4: Philosophy of Science and Logic
ECTS 7.5 / Semester 1b
This course consists of two parts. One part is all about philosophy of science. This is a branch of philosophy concerned with foundational questions about the nature of science: what is science? How does science work? How does science relate to other forms of knowledge and human practices? In this course, you will study classical and contemporary assessments of these questions. The other part of this course will introduce you to logic. Logic tries to tackle arguments at a very precise and formal level. You will learn how to analyse sentences and use logical tools. In addition, you will study formal deductions, and learn to make them yourself. With these instruments in hand, you can improve your philosophical thinking and writing skills.
