3 October 2024 - Meet & Greet on Tour, startup edition

We are pleased to announce a new career event for PhD students. Last year we visited three interesting companies in the field of medicine and the biotech industry, to explore possible career paths for you as early career researchers. This year, we invite you to join us if you are interested in learning how to start your own business and to hear what that is like.

When: Thursday October 3, 2024

Where: starting at Zernike Campus, Kadijk 4

What: please see the final programme below, as well as information about the participating startup companies.

Registration: the registration form for this event is now closed. If you still want to participate, please call me (Anneke Kroodsma) or send me a WhatsApp message at 06 15 56 49 32 and come to Kadijk 4 on time!

The startups

QDI Systems - developing imaging devices for medical applications based on quantum dots
QDI Systems
QDI Systems

QDI systems is a high-tech start-up, spin-off from Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen. At QDI systems, we develop imaging devices for medical applications based on quantum dots. Quantum dots(QDs) are tiny solution-processable semiconductor nanoparticles. This class of materials emerged a few decades ago, but only recently QDs appeared in commercial products on the mass market.

Sencilia BV - safer infusion therapy for improved patient outcomes
Sencilia
Sencilia

Sencilia, an early-stage MedTech startup, is a spin-off from the Bioinspired MEMS and Biomedical Devices (BMBD) group at the University of Groningen. Dr. Amar M. Kamat (former postdoc in BMBD and currently the CEO of Sencilia) and Prof. Ajay G.P. Kottapalli (Associate Professor and Chair of the BMBD group) founded Sencilia in Sep 2021 in order to utilize and valorize the extensive knowhow in sensor technology and nanofabrication generated within the BMBD group over many years.

Sencilia aims to enhance the safety of IV infusion therapy, and harbors the vision of becoming the standard of care in IV drug administration by 2030.

Portal Biotech BV - opening the door to universal proteomics
Portal Biotech
Portal Biotech

To understand proteins and metabolites is to understand ourselves: how we work, our health, how we respond to treatments and interventions.

Portal’s mission is to provide scientists and clinicians with the tools they need to kick-start the proteomics revolution, enable new discoveries in the fields of health and biology, and reduce the time taken to bring new drugs and treatments to clinical trial.

Gecco Biotech B.V. - unique novel enzymes and cofactors
Gecco Biotech
Gecco Biotech

Gecco Biotech is committed to devising and developing sustainable enzymatic solutions for a wide range of fields, including chemistry, pharma and F&F. Their services range from enzyme discovery & engineering to downstream processing. Using state of the art expertise, they develop novel enzymes, or improve variants, by improving target processes through engineering of enzymes for increased stability, specificity or activity.

HQ Graphene - high quality 2D crystals
HQ Graphene
HQ Graphene

HQ Graphene is a manufacturer of high quality 2D single crystals, selling directly to over 190 universities, research institutes and companies worldwide. Our customers are scientists demanding high purity and high quality crystals for scientific research.

Our scientific staff has the expertise in the production and characterization of large size and high purity single crystals. The crystals are characterized with X-ray diffraction (single crystal XRD and powder XRD), Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Raman and additionally with Hall measurements.
