Understanding financial matters, for management and office assistants
Are you regularly bombarded with financial terminology? In your role as a secretary or management or office assistant, you are involved in the University’s financial process. But do you sometimes feel insecure when you have to write the minutes of meetings, using the right terminology? Do you want to know how to keep track of how much money is still available to spend? And do you want to be able to provide better support to your manager when it comes to financial matters? This training course (three morning sessions) will help you to gain a better understanding of the world of finance.
This training course is designed to help you improve your understanding of financial management, with practical tips for you as an assistant. This course is open to anyone who, as a secretary or management or office assistant, has to contend with financial jargon when communicating by email or taking minutes in meetings. The course is also suitable for anyone whose responsibilities include financial and administrative tasks.
The programme consists of three half-days. During the first and second sessions, you will learn about financial jargon. During the third session, we discuss practical examples. You can also share your own examples.
Half-day 1: The basics of finance
Half-day 2: Financial management at the UG
Half-day 3: Finance in practice: discussion of your own experiences/examples.
After the training session, you will
- understand the most important financial terms
- understand the UG’s financial management processes
- know who to contact if you have finance-related questions
- be able to provide better support to your manager when it comes to financial matters
What former participants had to say about the course:
‘I thought it was useful to have financial statements explained and to be able to ask practical questions about them straight away. You also have the chance to discuss your own real-life examples.’
‘During this training course, you learn who at the UG and at the faculty or department is responsible for financial matters and who you can contact if you have questions or problems.’
‘You hear how colleagues deal with things and about the kinds of issues they run up against. It’s very informative and relatable.’
