Mobility

Student and staff exchanges form an important part of the internationalisation policy. The University of Groningen aims for half of all its graduates to have gained an international experience during their studies, either through virtual and/or physical mobility. To achieve this goal, the university is an active participant in the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission and provides funding through its Marco Polo scholarship programme for mobility with partners outside the EU and countries not associated to the Erasmus+ programme.

Erasmus+ individual mobility

Erasmus+ is the European programme providing financial support for students and staff to study and teach, or to pursue an internship in one of the countries associated to the programme. The scholarship is a partial scholarship, meant to cover additional costs e.g. insurance, visa, travel, or higher living costs in the host country. In the new programme, both semester and short-term mobility can be supported.

E+ Blended Intensive Programmes

Blended intensive programmes (BIPs) are short, intensive programmes that use innovative ways of learning and teaching, including the use of online cooperation. Mobile students and staff can be supported through the E+ mobility programme and coordinators of a BIP can receive development costs if the programme is set up according to the Erasmus+ rules.

Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility (ICM)

Erasmus+ ICM offers scholarships to university students to study for a semester at selected universities outside the EU/EEA and vice versa. Short teaching or training visits of university staff can also be funded through this programme.

Marco Polo

The University of Groningen provides financial support to students who wish to study at a partner university in a country for which no Erasmus+ scholarship can be provided. Marco Polo scholarships are available for a study abroad period of 2 to 12 months and support exchange cooperation with partners around the world.
