Are you interested in fostering a more inclusive learning environment? Then join Estelle Meima , Rina Fokel de Vries and Georgette Coffeng on the 28 January for a drink to discuss and work on creating a diversity statement for your courses!
Putting a diversity statement on your Brightspace course or in your syllabus can indicate to your students that you are committed to inclusion and wish to offer a supportive climate for all students. Elements of such a statement can include how you value diversity, respect differences in intellectual exchange, and consider these factors a positive influence on achieving learning outcomes. You can also highlight how diversity is represented in your course content—or not; for instance, you can explain to your students why authors from marginalized backgrounds are not included in the reading list or specify the limits in scope or outlook of your course.
In this workshop, you will write a diversity statement for one or more of your courses. Avoiding ‘blueprint’ language, you will have the opportunity to compose a statement that specifies what inclusion means to you, what students can expect from you, and how diversity and inclusion relate to your discipline or course.
