Introduction
Cancer is associated with a wide range of hereditary disorders. Recognising these genetic disorders in cancer patients is important for the medical management of both patients and their relatives. We have developed the Familial Cancer Database (FaCD) to assist clinicians and genetic counsellors in making a genetic differential diagnosis in cancer patients and become aware of the tumour spectrum associated with hereditary disorders already diagnosed in their patients.
Ongoing FACD projects
The database has been rewritten in MS SQL /ASP.NET and updated as a web-based application. Find it at www.facd.info
It contains information on more than 400 disorders and has over 1700 literature references. We are actively recruiting collaborators to share the editorial workload and further improve on the database contents. The database was officially launched in June 2008 at the 3d Familial Cancer Conference in Madrid, Spain.
