Notes on Synchrony
In the third year of UCG, you are expected to design your own projects. One of these projects is done by Johanna Paschen who is majoring in Social Sciences with a specific focus on the human brain, behaviour and cognition.
As all projects at UCG, Johanna’s project is highly interdisciplinary. She decided to explore the Sciences further while at the same time collaborating with the Arts by exploring the concept of Synchrony. In a statement by Johanna herself she explained her project in the following way:
‘My 3rd year project is called “Notes on Synchrony”, and we are investigating the inter-brain synchrony between contemporary dancers by using EEG. The idea is that the Arts and Sciences are actually collaborating and doing research together which means that the perspectives from scientists and artists are included by conducting this research. That is a new approach! And in my opinion, it is super interesting to be part of that process and observe the dynamics which are present. The goal of the project is to tour with an exhibition and performance, which developed during the research process, through the Netherlands. So the project is academically challenging but also a lot of fun which is a great combination!’
In the video you can see part of her preparation and find out more about ‘Notes on Synchrony’ and projects at UCG in general. Enjoy!
