Dr. Theisje van Dorsten
I am an assistant professor in arts education. My research mainly focuses on the cultural skills of children and adolescents and the role the arts can play in their development. I regularly collaborate with schools (for pupils with and without special needs), cultural institutions and other societal partners in the arts education field. By working closely together with these partners and combining theories and methods from various disciplines, such as arts and culture studies, developmental and evolutionary psychology, anthropology, neuroscience, educational science and semiotics, I aim to contribute to a more profound, theory and evidence-based understanding of the arts and imaginative thought and behaviour. I hold a BA and MA in Arts and Culture (University of Maastricht), an MA in World Art (University of East Anglia), and a PhD in Culture and Cognition (University of Groningen).
