Electronic-Digital Media & Performing Arts < > Icaro is a Colombian sound-media artist, musician and educator, interested in the making of instruments based on digital-electronic infrastructures and their use in performing arts. His practice is centered around sound experimentation, cultural appropriation of new technologies and decolonial studies. His work has been developed in both artistic and commercial fields and it is the result of explorations that combine art, sound, new media, music and education. During his master studies in Digital Media at HfK- Bremen, Icaro focused his research on the creation of myths and fictions which propose discussions about the stereotypical ideas we have of technology. Through performance on a stage, Icaro/Nene presents his body interacting and dancing with machines, robots and sound artifacts he has built. Currently, Icaro is a PhD Candidate at the Binational Artistic PhD Program of HfK Bremen (GER) in Cooperation with the University of Groningen (NETH). He also works as coordinator of the PhD program in HfK and, together with Prof. Dennis P Paul, as researcher in the project Critical Instruments.
