About the Research
The research is conducted as part of the course Questionnaire and Interview Design, a second-year course within Communication and Information Sciences (CIW) that focuses on (the theories behind) questionnaire design. The Theory of Planned Behaviour serves as the theoretical foundation, focusing on the relationship between individual behavior and its social context—how does one’s environment shape behavior, and vice versa?
The course runs throughout the first semester (September to February) and is worth 5 ECTS credits. Between 90 and 110 students participate, both Dutch and international. The groups are divided between the Oranjebuurt (approximately 2,500 residents) and the Noorderplantsoenbuurt (approximately 2,700 residents). Students work in groups of three, each assigned specific postcodes/streets. One week before the door-to-door research begins, students distribute flyers on their assigned streets. Starting in Block 2 (November 2024), they go door-to-door and have three weeks to collect about 20 individual surveys per group. All data is collected before the winter holidays.
The ultimate goal is to develop two distinct questionnaires: one for the Noorderplantsoenbuurt and one for the Oranjebuurt. The results from these surveys will be combined in a single report. Therefore, it is important to have an even representation of residents from both neighborhoods in the research committee.
