About the Research
The research is an ongoing project that acts as a collection of individual research projects carried out by students from different programs. The students carry out the research as a part of their thesis. In the project they collaborate with Margarita and get access to her network of Latin American immigrants to gather data. Margarita also acts as a translator during interviews and in the general communication to her network. The Science Shop acts as a mediator between the different parties and acts as a general sounding board during the preliminary phase of the different projects.
Students from the programmes European Language & Culture and Minorities and Multilingualism have already completed their theses within the project.
Focus areas of the research are:
- Challenges in Intercultural communication
- Developing effective language policy
- The educational offer for minorities
- Diverse language policies in the workplace
- Social justice and inequality in linguistic discrimination
In addition to their theses, the students also deliver a public end product with which they can inform Latinos in the Netherlands and provide input for follow-up projects. They do this with the support of the science shop. In this way, the research projects really contributes to improving the integration of Latinas in the Netherlands.
