UG starts new tech initiative: TechTalks050
Monday 15 April marks the start of TechTalks050, a series of meetings at DOT Groningen where a UG scientist and a professional from the field will present a current topic or trend in the field of digital technology or innovation. In addition, there will be opportunities to discuss new insights during the meetings themselves and the networking drinks afterwards. The meetings are intended for a broad audience: anyone interested in digital and technological trends is welcome.
Tickets can be pre-ordered via the DOT-website . The price for a ticket is € 7,50, including coffee or tea and one drink at the bar afterwards. Presentations will be held in Dutch.
Brain Inspired Computing
TechTalks050 will kick off with two speakers who will lead you through the world of brain computers or computer brains. What will the future look like? Are computers becoming more human? Can we relegate the mouse and keyboard to a museum?
UG scientist Niels Taatgen studies the next generation of computers, which will not be based on silicon chips but on new materials inspired by the human brain.
Game designer Jan Jonk of GainPlay develops computer games that are controlled by brain activity. Brain Computer Interfaces (BCIs) have been developed in medical science but are increasingly being used for a wider audience as well. Jan will explain how BCIs are used within the field of Utrecht-based company GainPlay.
TechTalks050 host
Rian van Diedenhoven will host the meetings. She works at the Economic Board Groningen (EBG) as project leader of the 5Groningen programme. Rian is passionate about social innovations and the development of new products and services, and she follows them closely. As the new host of TechTalks050, she is happy to share her interest in innovative developments in various areas.
Sharing knowledge from science and practice
TechTalks050 is an initiative of the UG Center for Information Technology (CIT). In collaboration with various partners in the region, the CIT wants to connect researchers with companies, experts and newcomers dealing with digital and technological trends. Examples of such trends can be found in data science, robotics, artificial intelligence, visualization, the Internet of Things, astronomy and sports medicine.
More information
You can find more information about the event and the speakers on the TechTalks050 website. If you register for the TechTalks050 mailing list, you will receive separate invitations to each event.
