Light-Absorbing molecules are often found in solution or in protein environments. Such environments can strongly influence the nuclear dynamics after photo excitation. I will discuss the case of DNA nucleobases in water and their response to UV light as well as photo switches in solution. These examples illustrate the effects of a complex environment on light induced dynamics.
