Congratulations! Jeff De Hosson - 40 years Professor at the University of Groningen

40 years ago, on October 6th, 1977 Jeff Th.M. De Hosson (1950) was appointment by Her Majesty Queen Juliana as Professor of Applied Physics-Materials Science at the University of Groningen.

The career of Jeff de Hosson is not only long, it is better characterized as one with impressive achievements and highlights: Jeff Th.M. De Hosson is an elected member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (‘Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen –KNAW’), of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (‘Koninklijke Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen’) and Academia Europaea. He has published more than 1000 scientific papers a/o 30 chapters in books, edited 21 books and so far he has supervised about 80 PhDs and more than 540 Ba/MSc students. He acts as an editor for 3 international scientific journals and he serves on the board of 13 scientific journals worldwide. During his career he has presented numerous invited keynote lectures and received a large number of awards: to name a few, the European Materials Gold Medal (FEMS), Nanostructured Materials Award, NanoSmat Prize, the Eminent Scientist Medal of Wessex Institute of Great Britain, the prestigious ASM USA Fellow award and TMS -Triple M (Materials Metals Minerals) Society Fellow Award USA.

His research focuses on in-situ electron microscopy, dislocation dynamics, nano-structured materials, interface science and laser and PVD surface engineering.
