Robots that can avoid collisions covered by ukrant
The university newspaper ukrant.nl has covered the recent advances by Thorben Schoepe and Elisabetta Chicca in the field of collision avoidance and navigation inspired by insects. In the article they explain how neural circuitries inspired by the honeybee can help robots to navigate safely in environments even under challenging constraints such as noise. The applicaitons of these advances are countless, from tiny robots autonomously avoiding obstacles in rescue missions, to rapidly flying drones.
