Research

The research of the department of history of art, architecture and landscape develops diachronic perspectives on the objects of art and architecture, their particular agencies, the networks they exist in, and their position in the landscape. Our academic staff studies art works (from Gothic cathedrals and Italian Renaissance paintings to 20th century sculptures and contemporary media installations), buildings (from historic churches to modern skyscrapers), cities (from Europe to South America) and human-landscape interactions. Materiality and style of the objects themselves are scrutinized, but also the underlying making and realisation processes, the significance and value attributed to them in the course of time, and the context in which they came into being, functioned and were experienced, used and received.
