On the cover: Characterization of gut microbial structural variations as determinants of human bile acid metabolism,Cell Host & Microbe,Volume 29 Issue 12 p1725-1838
In this issue of Cell Host & Microbe, Wang et al. (1802–1814) identify DNA regions of human gut bacterial genomes that may be involved in human bile acid metabolism and act as mediators that regulate the impact of lifestyle factors on bile acid metabolism. The cover colorfully illustrates the widespread associations between plasma bile acids (upper part) and variable genomic segments of gut bacteria (lower part). Each color represents a bile acid parameter. Artwork by Daoming Wang (University Medical Center Groningen, University of Groningen).
