Teaching materials

There is a selection of lessons that can be taught as classic pre- and post-preparation for the mobile planetarium. They have been developed by the European Space Education Resouce Office (ESERO) project, a collaboration between ESA, NSO and NEMO. ESERO provides support to primary and secondary school teachers in the field of space and astronomy. ESERO does this by developing projects and teaching materials and training teachers.

Please note: the teaching materials are in Dutch.

Take a look at the ESERO teaching packages.

Planetarium preparation

Below are some suggestions for preparation lessons for visiting the mobile planetarium:

Group 1-2 (ages 4-6): 'Heel veel sterren'

(Note: The bright band in the semicircle on the starry sky 'praatplaat' is the Milky Way. This is our galaxy, a disk containing a lot of stars, one of which is the Sun. In the sky, the Milky Way looks like an illuminated band around us. You need a very dark night sky to see the Milky Way).

Group 3-4 (ages 6-8): 'Wat zie jij'

group 5-6 (ages 8-10): 'Grote en kleine planeten'

group 7-8 (ages 10-12): 'Hoe word je een ruimtevaarder?'

After-school planetarium

Below are some suggestions for after-school lessons, a possible processing of the visit to the mobile planetarium:

group 1-2 (ages 4-6): 'De planeten'

Group 3-4 (ages 6-8): 'Zon, Aarde, Maan'

group 5-6 (ages 8-10): 'Leven in het Melkwegstelsel'

group 7-8 (ages 10-12): 'Leven in het Melkwegstelsel' (officially intended for group 5-6, but also very suitable for group 7-8)

These selected lessons do not require much preparation time, except Leven in het Melkwegstelsel. This lesson requires good preparation, especially for teachers who may not have much knowledge about the Galaxy.
