The Kapteyn Institute focuses on several astrophysical research domains. These domains are linked to the themes of the NOVA Network (NW):
-
High-Energy Astrophysics and Active Galaxies (NW1, NW3)
There is also a strong focus on Advanced instrumentation and Data Science and Virtual Observatories. The Kapteyn Institute is also closely involved in cross-disciplinary university research themes and interdisciplinary European research programmes, namely:
-
Fundamentals of the Universe, a research theme within the University of Groningen, aimed at studying the fundamental forces of nature with implications for the universe.
-
Data Science & Systems Complexity, a Marie Sklodowska-Curie COFUND action developed at the University of Groningen, representing a research training programme for 10 PhD students, aimed at understanding and designing complex systems and processes based on massive data.
