'Gids voor de Maan': a scientific and cultural exploration
Soon, people will probably walk on the moon again. For them, but also for those at home, there is now the richly illustrated Gids voor de Maan [Guide to the Moon], written by Peter Barthel, Professor of astrophysics at the Kapteyn Institute, and Klaas van Berkel, Professor of history at the UG.
The book contains the latest scientific findings and describes the Moon's culture (found mainly on Earth). You can read all about the origin of the Moon, Moon rocks and the search for Lunar life, but also about the cultural significance of the Moon in religion, psychology, science fiction, music and films, among others.
