PANTHEON: Start of EU-China funded research project on decarbonization
The Pathways to(wards) carbon neutrality for climate, environment, health, and socio-economic co-benefits (PANTHEON) project will officially kick off with a Partners’ meeting on March 21-22, 2024. The project, which is funded by the European Union's Horizon program, brings together a consortium of 11 participants from both Europe and China.
PANTHEON will develop an integrated participatory modeling approach to assess how different existing and emerging technologies, in critical economic and energy sectors, can be transformed into joint decarbonization pathways that are economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable. The project will use an iterative and co-learning process involving researchers, private and public stakeholders, and citizens on a global scale.
The kick-off meeting will be a great opportunity for partners (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Jagiellonian University, University of Zaragoza, University of Valladolid, Max Planck Institute for Chemistry), and associate partners (University College London, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Southern University of Science and Technology, Beijing Institute of Technology, ENN Science and Technology Development Co.) to get to know each other and to start planning the work ahead. The meeting is also an opportunity to discuss the project's objectives and to identify the key operational challenges that need to be addressed.
The PANTHEON project is a timely and important project that has the potential to make a significant contribution to the European Union's decarbonization goals. The project's innovative approach to modeling and its focus on stakeholder participation will ensure that the project's results will be relevant, credible, and useful.
